Karlskirche, Vienna:  the church was commissioned in 1725 by Emperor Charles V, in thanks for Vienna being spared the plague. The 2 Trajan's Columns show scenes from the patron saint's life and works

Esztergom Basilica:  the huge neo-classical Cathedral dominates the town, and gives memorable views across the river Danube and the Slovak countryside across the river - see Photo 3
River Danube at Esztergom:  viewed from dome of Basilica, the Danube stretches away across the Plain. The Maria Valeria Bridge was only recently rebuilt, having been destroyed by Germans in 1944. It is the only Danube bridge in this part of the country Szentendre Skanzen:  the Hungarian Open-air Museum gives a fascinating glimpse into traditional building, farming and way of life from the various regions of the country, including of course paprika drying. The rain that had plagued the last few days still had not fully cleared
