INTERACTIVE MAP :

As a source of help to fellow travellers, the interactive map (right) gives the location of all the campsites used by us in Poland and Western Lithuania during our summer 2010 trip.

Each site links to the chart below which gives details of:

  • campsite name, location, and GPS co-ordinates
  • date of our stay
  • cost per night including any discounts
  • campsite features together with our comments
  • assessment-rating

Campsites are rated on a scale +5 (excellent) through to -5 (dreadful); we have tried to be as objective and consistent as possible, basing our assessment on standards specifically applicable to Poland, over the following criteria:

  • attitudes shown, the welcome we received, and standards of hospitality and helpfulness
  • location and setting
  • standard of facilities
  • price and value for money

Prices are quoted in Polish Złoty - current exchange rate around 4.5zł to the pound sterling.

It is important to stress that comments given relate purely to the dates of our stay which in many cases was peak holiday season. Other sources of campsite information and listings are given on the Travel Tips Page.

25~26 June 80zł demanded,
BUT
64zł paid
in line with price on their internet site
Modern site but over-pretentious and over-priced: utterly over-surly, unhelpful and unwelcoming reception staff - getting any information was like drawing teeth; hedged pitches set among bungalows by hotel near Lake Malta, facilities modern, but no hot water in wash-ups; 10 minutes' walk for #8 tram to Poznań centre with supermarket near to tram-stop; 2010 price published on their website as 64zł/night, but unannounced increase to outrageous 80zł which we refused to pay.  No other campsite in Poznań which is well worth visiting, but Camping Malta exploits its monopoly and is NOT RECOMMENDED -1

When you eventually escape from the surrounding motorways and aggressive traffic and finally reach the site, the gates will probably be locked, but warden will come down and admit you; the setting could not be much worse, amid inescapable motorways and poorly signed it is pretty inaccessible and overwhelmed with traffic noise; once you do find your way in, the site is OK  but ground slopes badly; facilities modern and clean with plenty of hot water in showers and wash-ups; site run by Katowice city authorities and expensive +2

Functional welcome verging on the surly; Solina area near the Jawor dam and lake is overwhelmed with holiday-makers with all their noise and entertainment distractions; you fight a way through the crowds and traffic to reach campsite, next to a fairground overwhelmed with noise of discos; ground is filthy and muddy even in August fine weather; facilities sordidly grubby and dysfunctional - you avoided a shower for fear of coming out dirtier than when you went in

14~15 Sept 35zł Informal camping in garden to rear of house; despite language difficulties, friendly and welcoming; flat, grassy garden along rear lane leading off main street of Piaski village, last isolated settlement at eastern end of Wiślana Sandspit where wild pigs roam in street; facilities basic and straightforward but adequate; 2 shop-bars in main street; be sure to walk 4km path along to closed border with Russia which divides the sandspit.
Camping Piaski in main street looked good but closed end August

Helpful reception with city plans and details of trams and tickets; a rather care-worn site with tarmaced camping area partly under cover, in eastern suburbs of city at Stogi Beach with #8 tram terminus 200m away; facilities old-fashioned and chilly but hot water in showers and wash-ups; this is probably the best site available at Gdansk but at least the nearby #8 tram is convenient for city visits 20 mins journey; nearest shops in Stogi - get off tram for shops and wait for next tram every 10 mins; Gdansk shipyards of historic significance for recent Polish history +3

Greeted with rude indifference at reception and total lack of any city information; a gloomy site set on banks of River Wisła and totally overwhelmed with traffic and railway noise; facilities grubby and smelly but at least heated and hot water in showers and wash-up; cheap price, but you get what you pay for; Toruń heavily congested by Route 1 traffic and heavy trucks - making access/egress to campsite onto 1-way system difficult +1
