Slopes of volcanic ash cone:  the conserved former quarries on Volca del Croscat in the Baixa Garrotxa Volcanic region, now reveal the internal structure of the volcanic ash and cinder cone which resulted from the last eruption 12,000 years ago

Bessalu medieval town:  the 11th century fortified bridge over the river Fluvia leads into the winding narrow streets, dark-arcaded shops and sunny squares of the medieval hilltop town. And even on a Sunday, it was surprisingly quiet.
Breakfast at Vall de Ribes: this must be one of the most memorable spots where we have camped (how often have we said that!) - it felt as if we had the whole side valley to ourselves, sharing it with just the cattle grazing on the opposite side, with their clanging bells Cremallera train in Gorge de Nuria:  challenging mountains and incredible railway engineering all in one day. The only real way to appreciate both was to walk the superbly constructed GR11 footpath down the 1000m descent of the Nuria gorges.
