Andorra la Vella:  Andorra's reputation is of being the rather sordid bargain basement of Europe. But there are more attractive aspects to the Principality, if you get away from the tourist trail. We found this superb paella lunch in Andorra la Vella's old quarter

Prehistoric cave painting at Niaux:  paintings of bison, ibex, horses and stags, created over 12,000 years ago by lamplight in the cave's inner recesses, by Cro-Magnon Magdalenian hunter-gathers, Homo sapiens like ourselves. The paintings rival more recent works of art for their delicate beauty
Foix market:  regular visitors to our travelling web site will know of our love for wandering among the stalls of the local market. Foix has been holding its twice weekly market since being granted the privilege by the Counts of Foix in 13th century. If the shopping was as good then, Foix's citizens lived well Montsegur Cathar Castle:  the castle is set on the pinnacle of a 1200m high mountain, although little remains but the donjon and enceinte walls. It was the scene of the brutal murder of over 200 Cathars, by the Catholic church trying to rid itself of a peaceful sect who were prepared to suffer martyrdom for their beliefs.
