Huge 'camping village' with all the associated holiday-making noise and detritus once season begins; BUT in mid-March, only just opened and deserted; this is only time to stay. The totally obliging warden could not have done more to welcome us: facilities being cleaned so chalet WCs and shower opened for our use; lovely setting amid eucalyptus trees. Supermarkets in nearby Cannigone and Wed am market in Arzachena; ideally placed for nearby Nuraghic sites +4

2~3 April €28 Ultra welcoming and hospitable family-run agro-turismo in magnificent setting amid granite rocks 800m high on face of Monte Otobene; ask at the TIC in Nuoro - they will telephone family who will drive into city to guide you up onto Monte Ortobene, and welcome you with glass of Oliena Cannonau red wine; tiny camping area set under 900 year old Evergreen Oak tree with glorious views over hill country of Barbagia; down-side is minimal facilities, no showers and very expensive price; but worth it as it's only camping near to Nuoro +3

4~6 April €27 inc sconto Helpful welcome at reception; campsite used by climbers, with more tents than seen elsewhere; Cala Gonone is pleasant little resort which retains its isolated charm despite tourists hotels and apartments; magnificent setting on wild coastline below limestone mountains descending to sea; steeply winding narrow approach road with multiple hairpins, not for faint-hearted; campsite set in pinewoods shaded by high cliffs; supermarkets in Cala Gonone; BUT unduly expensive +3

10~13 April €18 with 4th night free Young English-speaking owner superbly helpful and welcoming and had responded to email with opening dates; nothing too much trouble; facilities limited but clean but hot water only in showers; setting under shady pine trees on terraced slope; gravelly ground drained quickly in pouring rain; altho' 18 kms from Cagliari, site on main road with bus services into city: #1Q orange bus from campsite to Flumini then change to bus PF into city at Piazza Matteotti; direct service by ARST bus limited to early morning and evening +3

17 April   Beautiful wild camp spot at end of lane from Porto Botte along shore-side lagoons; water tap in corner of parking area; occasional local trippers and fishermen, but otherwise peaceful and undisturbed; wonderful views and walks around stagno with wealth of birdlife: feeding flamingos, some soaring overhead showing their pink wings as they glided past, cormorants drying out their wings, black-winged stilts tip-toeing delicately around, and golden-eyed ducks

Officiously inhospitable and unhelpful welcome; getting information on basics eg buses into Oristano, was like drawing teeth; they have virtual monopoly of camping near to Oristano and it shows with arrogant indifference towards their guests. Setting - huge site but small crowded area for campers; pitches are sloping and made up of ill-compacted gravel - easy to get bogged in at times of heavy rain. Facilities clean and modern but no hot water other than computer controlled showers.  NOT RECOMMENDED; but Oristano is interesting medieval town; Tharros archaeological site is a must -2

29~30 May €26 Perfunctory welcome; setting - 11 kms from Piana along very narrow, winding corniche road with superb views of Capo Rosso, 500m from Plage d'Arone; totally a N European holiday-camp, filled with holiday-making families with inevitable noise of kids, dogs and TVs; only peaceful spots in olive grove at remote corner of site; site pleasantly landscaped with oleanders and overlooked by pink granite cliffs which glowed crimson at sunset; facilities modern and clean but limited hot water; poor value for a 2-star site at outrageous rip-off price of €26 +2

2 June €20.80 Wonderfully friendly, helpful and hospitable welcome; narrow lane 6kms down thro' village of Osani, steep access drive up to flat pitches terraced up steep hillside, shaded by olives; beautiful setting amid fragrant myrtle bushes, looking across to maquis covered hillside and craggy pinnacles of Capo d'Orto; 300m from superb wild beach - you could not ask for a more beautiful setting; facilities straightforward, but sparkling clean with plenty hot water; excellent value - worth every penny. Overall - this is very much a 'Campers' campsite'; brochure emphasises the delights of the natural beauty of both land- and sea-scape to be enjoyed by guests +5

Anonymous, perfunctory and unhelpful non-welcome, could not be more inhospitable if they tried; an enormous holiday camp with maximum number of pitches shoe-horned in; ambient noise levels horrendous - inconsiderate close neighbours, diggers and lorries, discos in evening; facilities mediocre with NO hot water in showers or wash-ups, closed for cleaning at max demand time to suit staff convenience; well-stocked mini-market for fresh bread; tram-line into Calvi, timetable in reception if you ask nicely.  ** WORST CAMPSITE OF TRIP **  Utter grotsville, a place best avoided -3

9~10 June €22 Very friendly and pleasant welcome - either book in at hotel opposite or warden comes round  to greet you; setting - totally peaceful, they don't come better than this - magnificent open hillside in Niolo plateau-valley surrounded by Corsica's highest peaks inc Monte Cinto; brand new facilities block with warm water in showers and wash-ups; boulangerie opposite and 10mins walk into Caluccia for mini-market; price slightly expensive, but the superb setting made it worth every penny +5

11~12 €26.40 Family-run site with friendly and hospitable welcome; tree-shaded camping area on banks of River Restonice; site tends to be monopolised by large groups of Dutch caravans with inevitable noise; within 15 mins walking distance from old centre of Corté and railway station for the Micheline train, 1 of most exciting mountain railway rides of Europe; facilities clean and modern with hot water in showers but no hand basins; baguettes can be reserved from reception; expensive for a 3-star site with limited facilities +3

13 June €17.50 Family-run small site with pleasant, friendly and hospitable welcome from lady-owner; magnificent setting just off RN193 heading up towards the Col de Vizzavona; site terraced into hillside just below Tattone station on the Micheline railway line, above valley looking directly up to the over-towering massif of Monte d'Oro; facilities modern and clean with plenty of hot water even in wash-ups; small bar-restaurant at reception where bread can be ordered for mornings; good value price by Corsican standards. You could not ask for a more pleasantly relaxed and peaceful site in such a magnificent mountain setting with such hospitable welcome +5

14 June €15.50 Very helpful welcome from young couple who keep the site; set along side lane off RN193 at tiny resort-hamlet of Prunete in former olive grove; olive trees provide plenty of shade but also teaming with (harmless) small white mites; site backs onto long and rather grubby beach; facilities modern and clean but limited; baker's van calls mornings in June; very reasonably priced. Overall - site busy in June with holiday-making families, but even so surprisingly quiet and still possible to find peaceful corner +3

15 June €17 Welcome - there was none other than monosyllabic surly greeting from owner who made himself instantly dislikeable; limited shade in large open camping area, but worst feature was plagues of flies from nearby stables and sheep sheds which made the site utterly uninhabitable; facilities were poor, old-fashioned and unclean; despite price, no electricity
** ANOTHER WORST CAMPSITE OF TRIP - TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS ** - use Camping Santa Marina instead

Avoid U Stazzu and camp here, such a more pleasant and welcoming site +4
