Breakfast
at St Paul de Fenouillet: Camping l'Agly (named after the River
Agly which has carved out the nearby 500 feet deep Galamus Gorge) was a
delightful and welcoming base for our 5 day stay at St Paul de Fenouillet,
thanks to Hélène
et Jean-Luc's
hospitality |

Queribus
castle: the first of the medieval castles in le Pays
Cathare which we visited. Set on a 700m high crag, it looks out over the
Roussillon plain with distant views of the high Pyrenean peaks such as
Canigou to the south |
 |
Peyrepertuse
castle: from the vantage point of the 800m 13th century castle,
you look down on the lower 11th century fortifications which fill the
entire length of the precipitously rocky spur. How this castle was ever
taken, other than by siege, defies imagination |

Snowy
slopes of Carlit Peak: a late spring fall of snow earlier in the
week added to winter's covering. This combined with perfect weather
conditions gave us the chance for one of the best mountain days in a long
time. Our overnight camp at 2000m added further to a very satisfying
culmination to this week |
