The 3 Baltic
Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have enjoyed independence for
only 40 years out of the last millennium; during the bulk of this time, they have been subject to foreign occupation, worst of all from 1945~1990 the
oppressive subjection by the USSR. Now since independent
statehood in 1991 and accession to the EU in 2004, they have achieved an impressive
re-assertion of their distinctive identities and cultures, making them a fascinating travel
venue with a wealth of natural and historical interest and an assuredly
hospitable welcome.
We are pleased to present this this series of travelogues, originally published live during
our 14 week trip to the Baltic States in 2011, as an encouragement to others to
consider this relatively unknown but exceptional region as a travel destination. To view each edition's
